The Roadmap to Hosting COP28
In preparation for hosting COP28, the UAE Cabinet has given the green light to a comprehensive roadmap consisting of 78 environmental initiatives. These initiatives encompass national strategies to reduce carbon emissions, regulate the use of solar energy products, promote sustainable tourism, and foster sustainable and environmentally friendly development practices.
Agenda Aimed at UAE Service Export Development
The Cabinet has approved the UAE Service Export Development Agenda, which aims to elevate production and enhance the competitiveness of Emirati exports in global markets. This agenda places special emphasis on five pivotal sectors: Education, Medical Tourism, Islamic Financial Services, Creative Economy, and Financial Services. By focusing on these sectors, the UAE strives to amplify its presence as a leading service provider worldwide and bolster its standing among countries with the highest Gross National Income (GNI) per capita.
The Cabinet also reviewed the policies for developing Emirati exports, aiming to open up to new global markets. In 2022, the UAE’s non-oil foreign trade achieved unprecedented growth, surpassing AED 2 trillion for the first time in history and recording a 17% increase compared to 2021.
Approval of the DARAK Housing Platform
Another significant decision made during the meeting was the approval of the DARAK housing platform. This integrated e-platform will streamline and simplify the entire house construction process, offering citizens a range of services, exclusive offers, and banking facilities, ultimately reducing construction costs and providing a centralised point of contact.
Advanced Model For Higher Colleges of Technology
Furthermore, the Cabinet endorsed a new educational model for the Higher Colleges of Technology, which will come into effect at the start of the academic year 2023/2024. The primary objective of this model is to strengthen the Higher Colleges of Technology’s contribution to developing the workforce within the country, ensuring that students are equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in the evolving job market.

Adoption of the Executive Regulation of the Federal Law on Consumer Protection

Regarding consumer protection, the Cabinet adopted the Executive Regulation of the Federal Law on Consumer Protection, prioritising the safeguarding of consumer rights, particularly regarding the quality of goods and services.
Agreements With Allied Nations
During the meeting, the UAE Cabinet granted approval for several agreements with allied nations, such as the Kyrgyz Republic and the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica. Notably, an agreement was also reached to establish the regional headquarters of the Islamic Development Bank in the UAE. Furthermore, plans were set in motion to establish the UAE embassy in the city of Bissau, Republic of Guinea. Additionally, the UAE expressed its candidacy for membership in the Executive Board of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, showcasing its commitment to global cooperation and sustainable urban development.
These initiatives and agreements are testaments to the UAE’s commitment to undertaking sustainable practices as it moves forward in its preparations for hosting COP28 in 2023.
